One of the things I was NOT expecting when moving to Europe was the lack of baking supplies that I had become accustomed to in America. At first it was extremely frustrating, but it has forced me to become resourceful. I started making this Homemade Pan Release because I can’t find a baking spray. Well actually I did find one, but it didn’t work.
Whether you don’t like baking sprays because of the links to COF exposure, or you just haven’t had any luck with them actually getting your cakes to come out clean, this homemade pan release will be the answer to all of your prayers. In fact, I’ll be using this forever. Even when we move back to America. It works that good!
To make the pan release, all you have to do is mix the 6 ingredients together until smooth. That’s literally it! Use a silicone pastry brush to wipe it all over the inside of your baking pan liberally. Then store it in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 6 months! Just microwave it before using again.
If the mixture is difficult to combine because of the Crisco, microwave for 10 seconds to soften the Crisco and mix again. Continue microwaving in 10 second blasts until you’re able to get everything combined evenly.

All Purpose Flour 1/2 cup
Canola Oil 1/2 cup
Crisco Shortening 1/2 cup
- Mix all ingredients together and apply liberally to the baking pan.
